SYD

syd was really good, we got to talk to Graham Monro who I personally thought was really awesome. you can see why people like him and his work is fairly good, very switched on man.

we also went to sun studios which was amazing, there was just so much too it, rooms upon rooms of gear and set ups that make you wish you had thousands of dollars. the girls bathroom was also I think the coolest bathroom I've ever seen.

all in all, good trip.

Geoff Comfort

talked about his career in Architectural,Aerial and Commercial photography.
he wasn't one of my favourite speakers.
mainly because he verbally attacked us to begin his talk, I think that turned a lot of people off.

Stock Images

Pros/Cons of Stock Photography
- get to shoot what you want, mostly
- freedom/lifestyle
- no difficult clients
- partchy income
- need a good agent (who takes %50 of sales)
- hard to break into established agency
-keep it fresshhhhh

Licencing Models
- $1 downloads (can make money from selling a large volume)
- royalty free, usually based on resolution (images sell from $50-$500)
- rights managed; based on useage (this has higher returns but less sales)

What Doesn't Sell?
- flowers, landscapes, abstract art, kids and pets
too many of these types of photos on the market.

What Does Sell?
- specialised/unique niche subjects
(eg. something the photographer may specialise in and do well)
- corporate and business
- family and lifestyle
- photos that can communicate a concept or message
(People= model releases!!, this also applies to buildings and artwork)

Keywords (captions/labels)
- obvious, general, message
- photo may illustrate a word
- keywording needs to provide optimum searchability for your image

- keep up with trends/current media; these things sell
- photos don't have to be amazing, just saleable
- there will often be requirements refering to the file size etc.
Although most photographers are not primarily stock photographers, selling stock photographs can provide some extraash flow.

If you see blow up dolls RUN

You need to ask yourself…
What are you willing to give up your weekends for?
>5k min
only have the packages you want to sell.

Packages $$$$

$2500 –staff photographer
$3500-staff photographer
$5700- with basic album
$8500-most profitable
$12950- inc negatives.

Staff photographer is a de-quoi they don’t exist.

Always talk albums, show them albums, sell the album before you shoot.
Sell album per-page; don’t tell them the price of an album.

How can you be worth this much?
-Be worth that much, go the extra mile
eg: lollies, little sewing kits. Tie the ties. Do everything you can, go up an beyond.
-Believe in what you’re worth.
-Help clients see the value in what you do.
-Look like you’re worth it.

“Why shouldn’t they pay you for something unique.”

Booking clients 7-10 is a good range.

Sell you, but don’t talk about YOU

Eg: “have you got a dress yet?”
If they haven’t, show them copies of dresses you have taken photos of.

You have to love your client.

Educate your clients.

Find things that inspire you from movies, mags, books ect/
