Stock Images

Pros/Cons of Stock Photography
- get to shoot what you want, mostly
- freedom/lifestyle
- no difficult clients
- partchy income
- need a good agent (who takes %50 of sales)
- hard to break into established agency
-keep it fresshhhhh

Licencing Models
- $1 downloads (can make money from selling a large volume)
- royalty free, usually based on resolution (images sell from $50-$500)
- rights managed; based on useage (this has higher returns but less sales)

What Doesn't Sell?
- flowers, landscapes, abstract art, kids and pets
too many of these types of photos on the market.

What Does Sell?
- specialised/unique niche subjects
(eg. something the photographer may specialise in and do well)
- corporate and business
- family and lifestyle
- photos that can communicate a concept or message
(People= model releases!!, this also applies to buildings and artwork)

Keywords (captions/labels)
- obvious, general, message
- photo may illustrate a word
- keywording needs to provide optimum searchability for your image

- keep up with trends/current media; these things sell
- photos don't have to be amazing, just saleable
- there will often be requirements refering to the file size etc.
Although most photographers are not primarily stock photographers, selling stock photographs can provide some extraash flow.
